After leaving Dajarra we did our shopping at MtIsa and then onto our free camp at Mary Kathleen. Mary Kathleen is approx 60km from east of Mt Isa. Mary Kathleen was a town which was built in the late 1950’s to mine Uranium. It was a town of around 1,200 people and there was around 200 babies born which one was named Mary Kathleen Henry. The town was very sufficient with churches, shops,Post Office,Police, cinema, school, olympic swimming pool etc. The concrete slab of the buildings are still there. The buildings were taken to MtIsa and Cloncurry and are still in use today. The town closed around 1974. It was very sad to see and read what had happened to this town
